Flies Control

One of the most troublesome pests in Malaysia is the fly. Flies belong to the order Diptera and the family Muscidae. Fly infestations are not only annoying but also disruptive. Moreover, flies act as vectors for diseases such as food poisoning, cholera, dysentery, and myiasis.

Flies can be found in both rural and urban areas. Their presence often creates a negative impression, as it is typically associated with unclean environments. Flies need to feed 2 to 3 times a day, which is why they are commonly seen swarming around food sources.

Flies as a Pest

Disruptive

Especially when flies are present in large numbers in a specific area.

Irritating

Flies produce an annoying buzzing sound with their wings and hover persistently around food sources.

Food and drink contamination

Flies can spread bacteria and pathogens widely, as their bodies collect these organisms when landing on dirt or unsanitary surfaces, such as animal feces, garbage dumps, and sewage areas.

Vectors of disease

Flies act as mechanical vectors, transmitting pathogens as they feed or land on waste, decaying matter, or feces.

Methods of Flies Control

Residual Spraying (Ochre’s Action)

Residual spraying creates a chemical barrier around the perimeter of the building to deter flies

ULV Misting (Ochre’s Action)

Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) misting is applied indoors to control flies. This method produces fine particles that can penetrate potential fly resting areas.

Sealing Entry Points (Customer’s Action)

Seal any openings that allow flies to enter. Use air curtains or curtain strips on doors to minimize access.

Mechanical Control (Customer’s Action)

❖ Keep garbage bins tightly covered at all times. Use self-closing doors to reduce fly entry, ensuring doors close automatically when not in use.
❖ Employ Insect Light Traps (ILT) that emit UV light to attract flies. Flies are trapped on adhesive cards inside the ILT stations.

Sanitation and Hygiene (Customer’s Action)

❖ Eliminate fly breeding sites, such as garbage disposal areas, and maintain clean, freeflowing drains.
❖ Regularly clean waste disposal areas.
❖ Remove animal feces (from pets or livestock) daily.
❖ Dispose of carcasses, spoiled meat, or animal remains promptly to reduce breeding opportunities for flies.
