Fleas Control
Fleas are external parasites that harm their hosts. Common hosts include cats, dogs, and humans. Cat fleas, scientifically classified under the order Siphonaptera, primarily infest cats as their hosts. These fleas are small, measuring 2 to 2.5 mm, with shiny bodies that range from reddish-brown to black in color. Despite lacking wings, they can jump long distances. Their bodies are covered with hair, helping them cling to their host’s fur.
To survive, fleas require blood meals, similar to mosquitoes. Hosts provide this crucial sustenance. However, cat fleas are resilient and can survive for over 100 days without feeding.
Fleas can migrate between hosts. When cats roam outdoors, they may interact with flea-infested stray cats. The fleas then attach themselves to the cats’ fur, and upon returning home, these fleas may also infest the cat’s owner or living space.
Given their life cycle, which can range from 12 to 14 days to as long as 180 days, it’s vital to address fleas quickly. Controlling fleas before they complete their life cycle is essential to prevent infestations.

Risks of Fleas
Cats infested with fleas often scratch their fur incessantly due to severe itching. This can lead to skin redness and irritation. For humans, fleas can migrate from pets, causing allergic reactions and transmitting diseases. Fleas are a nuisance due to their biting behavior in search of blood. Even households without cats may encounter fleas brought in by stray cats or dogs.
Methods of Fleas Control

Blanket Spraying
❖ Target Areas: Blanket spraying is conducted on flooring areas in infested premises,
including carpets, pet bedding, furniture, and indoor spaces frequented by cats where
fleas are most concentrated.
❖ Effectiveness: The chemicals used kill fleas and flush them out of hiding.
❖ Mechanism: Fleas die upon contact with surfaces treated with the spray.

Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) Misting
❖ Application: ULV misting is applied throughout the premises to target fleas hiding in
cracks, carpets, curtains, and areas where cats rest.
❖ Advantages: This method is highly effective as the ULV machine releases fine particles
that can penetrate small gaps where fleas hide.
